GE IC695ALG600 Review: Universal Analog Input Module

GE IC695ALG600 – A Versatile Universal Analog Input Module

The GE IC695ALG600 is a universal analog input module from the PACSystems RX3i platform. Formerly manufactured by GE Intelligent Platforms and now by Emerson Automation, this module delivers flexibility and reliability for demanding industrial applications. It supports a wide range of input signals, making it a valuable component for automation engineers and system integrators.

Key Features and Technical Specifications

The IC695ALG600 offers eight general-purpose input channels and two cold junction compensation (CJC) channels. The inputs organize into two groups of four channels each. Engineers can configure each channel independently for voltage, current, resistance, thermocouple, or RTD signals. Supported voltage ranges include ±50 mV, ±150 mV, 0–5 V, 1–5 V, 0–10 V, and ±10 V DC. Current ranges cover 0–20 mA, 4–20 mA, and ±20 mA. Resistance measurements span 0 to 250, 500, 1000, 2000, 3000, or 4000 ohms. The module works with RTD types PT 385/3916, N 618/672, NiFe 518, and CU 426, as well as thermocouple types B, C, E, J, K, N, R, S, and T.

This module requires a PACSystems RX3i universal backplane and firmware version 2.80 or later. You must configure it using Proficy Machine Edition (PME) version 5.0 SP1A LD-PLC Hotfix 1 or later. For signal termination, use box-style (IC694TBB032), extended box-style (IC694TBB132), spring-style (IC694TBS032), or extended spring-style (IC694TBS132) terminal blocks. Extended terminal blocks are recommended as they accommodate thicker wire insulation and shield wires.

Installation and Operational Parameters

The IC695ALG600 dissipates a maximum power of 5.4 Watts, with internal power ratings of 350 mA at 3.3 V and 400 mA at 5 V. It features a configurable input filter with frequencies of 8, 12, 16, 40, 200, or 1000 Hertz. The module operates on the RX3i universal backplane only—it cannot be placed in remote or expansion backplanes. It includes three LED indicators: Module OK (status), Field Status (channel fault or terminal block error), and Terminal Block (presence or absence of terminal block).

The module supports flash memory for future upgrades. It operates in ambient temperatures from 0 to 60 °C (32 to 140 °F) and can be stored in temperatures from -40 to 85 °C (-40 to 185 °F). The maximum RTD cable impedance is 25 ohms.

Practical Value for Automation Professionals

The GE IC695ALG600 simplifies analog signal acquisition by supporting multiple sensor types in one module. This reduces hardware inventory and simplifies system design. The independent channel configuration allows precise tailoring to mixed signal applications. The robust filtering options help mitigate noise in harsh industrial environments. For engineers seeking a dependable universal analog input solution for PACSystems RX3i, the IC695ALG600 presents a strong option. Its compatibility with standard terminal blocks and easy software configuration further enhance its appeal for both new installations and upgrades.
