Product Introduction
When a short circuit or overload threatens your control system, the Allen-Bradley 1746-OBP16 Digital DC Output Module provides immediate electronic fuse protection and automatic fault recovery to minimize downtime. Part of the SLC 500 family, this 16-channel sourcing output module delivers reliable high-current control for demanding industrial environments.
The 1746-OBP16 occupies a single slot in fixed or modular SLC 500 chassis and integrates a Littelfuse #322010 or #332010 10A fuse for short-circuit protection. Each channel features individual electronic protection, ensuring that only the faulted channel shuts down while others continue operating.

Installation & Setup Guidance
Install the Allen-Bradley 1746-OBP16 into any single slot of an SLC 500 fixed or modular chassis. Ensure backplane current draw is within chassis capacity. Use signal wires no larger than 2 mm² (14 AWG) to maintain proper terminal connection. No additional mounting hardware is required.
After insertion, connect the DC power supply (20.4–26.4 VDC) to the module’s output terminals. The module automatically resets after a fault once power is cycled and the error source is corrected.
Troubleshooting & Common Issues
The front panel E-FEUSE LED illuminates when a channel experiences a short circuit or overload. If lit, remove system power, correct the fault, and reapply power. The module will automatically recover and resume normal output.
For fuse replacement, use Littelfuse #322010 or #332010 (10A). The 1746-F8 kit from Allen-Bradley contains five spare fuses. Always replace the fuse with the module powered off and removed from the chassis.
If multiple channels trigger the E-FEUSE simultaneously, verify the external load and wiring. The module’s individual channel protection ensures other outputs remain operational during a single-channel fault.
Selection Guide & Purchasing Advice
Before purchasing, confirm the 1746-OBP16 matches your SLC 500 system’s backplane current requirements (250 mA at 5V). Verify the output voltage range matches your load specifications. For high-current applications, this module supports up to 1.5 A per output (derated to 1 A under certain conditions).
