The GE IC693CMM311 is a communication coprocessor module from the Series 90-30 PLC platform. Originally manufactured by GE Fanuc and now under Emerson Automation, this module provides robust connectivity for modular CPUs. It supports CCM, RTU, and SNP protocols, making it versatile for industrial automation networks. Engineers rely on this module to enable serial communication between the PLC and various devices.

Communication Ports and Protocols

The IC693CMM311 features two serial ports. Port 1 supports RS232, while Port 2 supports RS232, RS422, and RS485 electrical standards. Each port uses a 25-pin D-shell connector. The module supports multiple protocol combinations: both ports for CCM, one for CCM and the other for RTU or SNP, and more. Transmission speeds range from 300 to 19200 baud. This flexibility allows engineers to adapt the module to different communication requirements.

Installation and Compatibility

This module mounts on the CPU baseplate and occupies a single slot. It works with modular CPUs in the Series 90-30 line, such as models 331 and later, but not with embedded CPUs like the 311, 313, or 323. A baseplate can host up to four CMM modules. The IC693CBL305 Wye cable simplifies wiring by separating the two ports. The module draws 400 mA at 5 VDC from the backplane.

Status Indication and Configuration

Three LED indicators show operational status: Module OK, PORT1, and PORT2. A push-to-restart button reinitializes communication without restarting the module. Engineers can configure the module using default settings or specialized software. This ease of configuration supports quick deployment in automation projects.
